Stories from the Heart

Giving a Voice to the Unheard

Stories from the Heart is a transformative program dedicated to strengthening the bond between incarcerated individuals and their loved ones through the power of reading. Participants in this program record themselves reading a story, and we take care of editing, sourcing materials, and sending the finished recording and book to their children or loved ones. This initiative nurtures family connections and fosters a love for reading, emphasizing the importance of shared reading experiences between parents and children.

Volunteers are at the heart of this initiative, and their contributions make a profound difference.

How Volunteers Can Help

Our volunteers play a crucial role in bringing Stories from the Heart to life. Whether you have a background in education, audio editing, administration, or simply a passion for supporting families, you can make an impact in many ways:

  • Audio Editing & Production: Help refine recordings to ensure clarity and quality before sending them to families.

  • Administrative Assistance: Organize recordings, coordinate communication, and prepare materials for program expansion.

  • Community Engagement: Help spread awareness about the program, advocate for literacy and rehabilitation, and connect us with potential partners who can further our mission.

Ways to Support Us

Your generosity helps sustain and grow Stories from the Heart, ensuring more individuals can participate and share their voices. Here’s how you can contribute:

  • Make a Donation: Your financial support allows us to provide materials, cover administrative costs, and expand our reach to more facilities.

  • Sponsor a Participant: Help cover the costs associated with recording, editing, and book distribution for an incarcerated individual.

  • Donate Supplies: We always need books, recording equipment, postage, and other essential materials.

  • Book Sponsorship: On average, purchasing a book for a participant in the program costs around $15. Your contribution ensures that more children receive books from their loved ones.

  • Advanced Funding for Materials: Donors can earmark funds specifically for materials, ensuring the program has the necessary supplies and resources available when needed. Advanced contributions help us plan ahead and expand our impact.

  • Corporate or Organizational Partnerships: Businesses and community groups can support our mission through sponsorships, grants, or employee volunteer programs.

Why It Matters

Stories from the Heart is more than just a literacy initiative—it is an opportunity for connection, healing, and family bonding. Research shows that children benefit immensely from being read to, and this program allows incarcerated individuals to maintain a presence in their children’s lives despite physical separation. By supporting this initiative, you help create lasting emotional connections and encourage a lifelong love of reading.

Your involvement—whether as a volunteer, donor, or advocate—creates real change. Join us in expanding our reach and bringing this meaningful program to even more individuals who can benefit from it.

Be a part of this transformative journey.
